Description
Vacuum Immobilisation Mattress (Vac Mat) – Secure Patient Immobilisation for Trauma Care
The Vacuum Immobilisation Mattress, also known as a Vac Mat, is a specialised medical device designed to safely immobilise patients during transport, particularly when vertebra, pelvic, or limb injuries are suspected. This versatile vacuum mattress acts as both an immobiliser and a stretcher, making it ideal for transporting patients over short distances in emergency and first aid scenarios.
Vacuum mattresses provide superior comfort compared to traditional stretchers, as they adapt perfectly to the patient’s body shape. By distributing pressure evenly, the vacuum mattress minimises the risk of secondary injuries and helps prevent pressure ulcers. Patients are securely held in place, ensuring maximum stability during movement.
How to Use a Vacuum Mattress:
Place the casualty on the mattress, ideally using a scoop stretcher or spinal board. Carefully wrap and fold the sheet around the patient, keeping the head clear and ensuring the valve is positioned at the feet. Use the pump to remove air until the mattress becomes rigid, then close the valve and fasten the straps for secure immobilisation.
Features:
- Easily adjust the mattress to be soft or hard, using the dual-action pump
- X-ray and MRI compatible
- Constructed from isolative and cold-resistant PVC
- Supplied with a pump and carry bag
